After we were greeted by our great host, Naoko, we were quickly ushered into the air conditioned check-in room just off the seaplane. The welcome room was smack dab in the middle of the bridge connecting the two islands that have guest rooms on them.
Naoko offered us each what tasted like a fruit smoothie to cool down. As the financial logistics had been taken care of at the airport lounge we just had the fun stuff to deal with now!
The front desk manager also greeted us, thanked us for being Hilton Gold members, and offered us a free upgrade starting on night 3 to a Deluxe Beach Villa. Despite us already having a Superior Water Villa reserved for nights 4 and 5 we readily agreed. We packed very light so moving rooms was simple, and why not see as much as the Conrad had to offer!
I included the above map to help you get your bearings throughout these reviews. Find the full resolution version here. A few notes:
- The bottom island only has water villas on it, two quiet restaurants, and one very quiet bar
- The top island is more of the main island with more restaurants, villas, the gym, dive centre, etc.
- The seaplane platform is smack dab between the two areas
- This means our first room was on the top island as a standard Beach Villa (the base room)
There is a lot to learn/know about the Conrad! This FlyerTalk thread is invaluable but feel free to drop me any questions as well!
Conrad Maldives Beach Villa Review: Location and Floor Plan
Naoko quickly walked us on our way to the Beach Villa with our luggage to be delivered shortly. It was immediately obvious that Naoko would be phenomenal throughout our stay. We actually spent almost a week in Tokyo for our honeymoon and loved Japanese hospitality so enjoyed discussing Japan with Naoko as well.
We stepped into Beach Villa #112 and could immediately see how beautiful of a room it would be. The Beach Villas were renovated within the past year and it was evident how much care and detail had been put into the renovation. Naoko then spent about 10 minutes explaining all of our Hilton Gold benefits, walking through the features of the room, how she could assist us as our host, reservations we already had, and more.
To get us started on the room let’s take a look at the Conrad Maldives provided floor plan of the Beach Villa:
This floor plan is spot on and helpful as I walk through all the pictures.
One item of note: if you look at the high res version of the resort map you will see #112 is quite close to all the “action”. The restaurants, gym, etc. Although this was quite convenient it also meant our beautiful outdoor shower backed to the dirt path which constantly had golf carts whizzing by, people walking, etc. Basically, it did not quite give the feeling of privacy we had hoped for. I would highly recommend requesting a Beach Villa on the reef side of the island for more privacy and better views.
Conrad Maldives Beach Villa
Alright, on to the room! As we stepped in we saw a long narrow hallway leading into the room:
You could see straight out to the ocean from the bed which was beautiful. Although again, not always as private as one would hope (that is not my husband coming out of the water!). According to MaldivesFreak on FlyerTalk, the expert in everything Maldives, this is one of only a few units that has a direct view to the ocean and less privacy.
At the back of the Beach Villa was the outdoor shower and soaking tub:
Which again were beautiful but due to the location of our beach villa we never quite felt the privacy we were looking for.
Conrad Maldives Beach Villa: The Details
The Conrad Maldives is ALL about the details to set it apart. From our wonderful host Naoko who was only a phone call away for all reservations and questions to the room details, we were very impressed. For the Beach Villa, and every room, there were so many little touches that really made the room feel special.
- Toiletries were refilled in large jars but additional brands were available upon request
- A very nice Hilton Gold welcome amenity of fruit, chocolate, and a bottle of red wine
- An emergency kit – not necessarily a thoughtful detail but entertaining nonetheless
- Minibar prices are not for the faint of heart!
Speaking of minibar prices, one of the few free items at the Conrad Maldives is the in room bottled water and Nespresso coffee. As you can imagine we had a lot of coffee in the room rather than $7.00 for every soda!
The room actually had so many various window shades, light switches, and more that there was a page describing how to control each and every electronic switch!
Conrad Maldives Beach Villa: Bottom Line
The Beach Villa is gorgeous for a standard room anywhere. The Conrad clearly put a lot of thought into the room when they renovated and it shows. The location was not great, and if you are staying for many nights in a Beach Villa I would 100% recommend something more private. However, it was great for our first two nights as we got familiar with the two islands due to the central location.
