It’s that time of year again. One of my favorite shows, “Parts Unknown” starring Anthony Bourdain is about to begin a new season. If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it’s a really cool fusion of travel and food experiences. The new season will continue to be broadcast on CNN with new episodes airing on Sunday’s at 9pm ET. If you’re like me, you probably want to know where he’ll be heading this season. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s the entire Anthony Bourdain ‘Parts Unknown’ season 9 schedule.
Anthony Bourdain ‘Parts Unknown’ Season 9 Schedule
April 30: Los Angeles
Anthony makes an second visit to Los Angeles. If you recall, years ago he did a show that mainly focused on the Korean population of LA. This time we’ll be in for a deluge of Mexican food as Bourdain will feature several popular eateries. This is right up my alley.
May 7: San Sebastian
For the second episode Anthony makes a trip to the Basque region of Spain to visit San Sebastian. Bourdain will meet up with chef Juan Mari Arzak and most likely indulge in very fancy food that I’ll never eat. At least the views should be nice.
May 14: Laos
This should be a can’t miss episode. In addition to sampling the local cuisine, Bourdain will also touch upon the lingering effects of the United States’ secret war that took place during the 60’s and 70’s. Southeast Asia is always full of energy so I’m sure this episode will live up to it’s billing.
May 21: Queens
Episode 4 brings us back to the United States to visit Queens. Bourdain takes the No. 7 train to indulge in a wide variety of international flavors that Queens has to offer. Additionally, he’ll make a side visit to Aqueduct Race Track in South Ozone Park. Travel, food, and horse racing? Count me in.
June 4: Antarctica
‘Parts Unknown’ will take a week off for Memorial Day and return with an off the grid trip to Antarctica. Anthony will visit scientists and military personnel while exploring the icy region. I’m not sure what they’ll be eating, maybe MRE’s with some hot sauce? I’m a little skeptical about this episode, but I’ll give it a shot.
June 11: Oman
Well crap. My wife and I seriously considered jumping over to Muscat, Oman while we were in India last year. Ultimately we decided against it. Anthony visits the capital in addition to local Bedouins who inhabit the world’s largest sand desert. I’m sure the whole episode will make me regret our decision to skip Oman.
June 18: Trinidad
This should be an interesting episode. I’ve long been curious about Trinidad given it’s proximity to Venezuela. Does it have a South American vibe, or more of a Caribbean feel? Anthony finds out that there’s influences from all around the world.
June 25: Porto
For the season finale, Anthony visits Portugal in what will result in an excellent display of food and wine. The episode culminates with a traditional food celebration in the Douro Valley countryside. Liz actually visited Porto a few years back, so I’m sure I’ll get to hear all about it if she’s around when this episode airs.
‘Parts Unkown’ is a great show if you’re into travel, good food, and interacting with locals on your vacations. It’s not a show I necessarily tune into the second it airs, but it’s great filler space on the DVR. Anytime you’re bored and have nothing to watch, Bourdain can be relied upon to fill the void.
