I’m wrapping up a quick trip to San Diego and wanted to share my thoughts on the Hotel Indigo Gaslamp Quarter. I’m traveling with a few other colleagues and we needed to be downtown for a conference, but didn’t want to break the bank. Downtown San Diego was surprisingly expensive for the middle of the week in April. Perhaps there were a lot of conferences in town. Anyway, we settled on the Hotel Indigo which was reasonably priced ($160/night) and walking distance to where we needed to be.
The Room: Hotel Indigo Gaslamp Quarter
This was my first time staying at a Hotel Indigo, and I was rather impressed. The hotel reminded me of a Kimpton property in that it was modern, pet friendly, and somewhat hip. My room was spacious for a downtown property. I had plenty of room to move about and get some work done.
Even the bathroom and shower was much larger than a typical hotel:
The room also featured a keurig machine near the entry. For some reason, I’m always hesitant to use these in hotel rooms. I’m just not sure how often then are cleaned. Maybe I’m just being paranoid. Anyway, this is a much better location than the bathroom where many hotels place them.
Overall the room greatly exceeded my expectations. Work was busy so I didn’t have time to check out any other parts of the hotel except the 9th floor lounge, which was a few steps from my room. It provided quite the surprise!
Free Baseball At Hotel Indigo Gaslamp Quarter!
After the conference wrapped up we jumped over to the Level 9 Rooftop Bar for a quick drink. Upon parking I knew that our hotel was located near the baseball stadium, but I didn’t know we’d have a direct view onto the field!
Hotel Indigo has setup the bar so that patrons can hang out and catch some of the game. They even throw in a little bit of baseball flair by selling typical stadium draft beers and hot dogs. It just so happened that my hometown team, the Arizona Diamondbacks were in town, so I got a chance to watch some of the game, steps from my hotel room. As a sports fan, this was a really cool perk to the hotel.
The Hotel Indigo – Gaslamp Quarter exceeded my expectations. The property was priced in the same ballpark (pun intended) as a typical Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, etc. Additionally, it’s walk-able to anywhere you need to be downtown. I’d recommend this property to anyone that needs to be in downtown San Diego, but doesn’t want to break the bank.
